I have a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MS in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State, University Fullerton. I taught Art at the middle and high school levels and though I decided to pursue a career as a therapist, I continue to use art in my work with clients. I am certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT). I am also contracted with Talkspace where I provide online therapy within a confidential web based platform (https://www.talkspace.com/room/desireebramlett ).
I went to school for Art and taught Art after I graduated. I had the opportunity to engage students with personal discussions about their work. I realized I was doing more therapy than teaching and I loved therapy more. I began to think about Art Therapy but realized I didn't want to do just that. At the time, schools that combined Art Therapy and MFT degrees were limited. Nevertheless, I had developed a passion for helping people move through their challenges. I continue to love what I do and look back fondly on that part of my life as I continue to learn and grow each day as a therapist.
I have worked with children, teens, and adults from different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and races. Most of my work has been within community mental health where issues of trauma, abuse, depression/anxiety, grief/loss, and violence have been prevalent. Self-regulation, conflict resolution, and trust, to name a few- are focuses that continue to be high priorities for families and peer or intimate relationships.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through therapeutic treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
